Following the latest trends and fashions has always been part and parcel of living in a modern society. This used to apply more so when going out and socialising where you would don your best bib and tucker and dress to impress. For some people having the latest look would be a must and serious money would be spent on the latest fashions from well known brands. This is because it is our nature to want to be admired and also our need to want to fit in and impress. Obviously there is also an element of showing off here and to show how well you’re doing in this never ending rat race.
In the last few years this has spilt over into the way we look and dress at work and even on the commute to and from work. This maybe influenced to some degree by social media, especially Instagram, as we are constantly bombarded by images of the latest fashions and accessories. Most people like to look good and I think to some degree we like to give out a subliminal messages that we are actually doing rather well. Not that there is anything wrong with that. We all work very hard these days so we deserve to treat ourselves once and a while. Luxury accessories are an essential part of this. For a woman this may equate to a beautiful handbag and for a man, a smart messenger bag.
In the past a lot of men were quite happy to carry a cheap canvas bag usually with a sports motif emblazoned on it, to their place of work, but those days have gone. As men get ever more sophisticated with their sense of style and fashion, the messenger bag has become a key part in how they expressing themselves. After all there is something really special about owning and using a high quality bag, plus the fact is, it does also make good economic sense. After all this is a bag that you are using on almost a daily basis so a good quality messenger bag will last the test of time.
Which messenger bag should you choose?
There are literally thousands of different messenger bags out there in the market today so what to choose? To help you decide, apply a few simple rules to pin down exactly what would suit your needs.
Practicality: Think about what you intend to carry in your messenger bag. For instance, will it be able to accommodate your laptop or tablet. Does it have plenty of compartments or pockets so that you can find things quickly? Is the bag easy to access? If it has a number of buckles to undo, that could get tiresome. However it is important to point out that some messengers have the appearance of having buckles but in actual fact have simple magnetic closures underneath for easy access and use. The Bonfanti Doppio is a good example of this.
Durability: This is another important consideration as you want your investment to last. Consider how much money you have to spend. A bag made with Italian leather is probably the best choice but also a good quality nylon bag is another practical option. A really stylish bag that seems to cover all bases is the Roncato messenger bag which is made from durable nylon combined with an attractive strip of leather. Remember this is an bag that will need to withstand the bumps and scrapes of the daily commuter run and used in all weathers.
Style: The messenger bag needs to look good, whether you wear it over your shoulder or cross body and the ultimate in style is a bag handmade in Italy. A quality bag will last you a long time so it is best to choose a classic style so that it won’t become unfashionable. Colour is also an important consideration. It’s tempting to pay safe and go for either brown or black but may want to make a bold statement and choose say a blue or even an orange bag.
Cost: Obviously you need to spend within your means but a quality bag is an investment that you will enjoy for years so it may be false economy to buy from the cheaper end of the market.
Hopefully once you have taken these aspects into consideration you should have a good idea of the type of messenger bag that suits you to ensure you look sharp on that commuter run.
